The trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie is here. It’s got our first look pocket monsters in the real world. The Pokémon Company released the trailer starring Merc with a Mouth himself, Ryan Reynolds, as the voice of the fluffy Pikachu.
The synopsis for the movie comes from the official Detective Pikachu website. It revolves around the disappearance of private investigator Harry Goodman, leading to his son finding out the mystery around what
Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.”
The trailer features tons of Pokémon animated in a new style never featured in Pokémon before. While fans have only seen them in cartoons and video games, the movie shows what they would look like in the real world. Pikachu himself, appears furry and soft, while Charizard can be seen with reptilian-like skin.
Fans everywhere can now experience Pikachu on the big screen as never before, as Detective Pikachu, a Pokémon like no other. The film also showcases a wide array of beloved Pokémon characters, each with its own unique abilities and personality.”
It’s a trailer fans can and will most likely watch multiple times to try and guess “Who’s that Pokémon?” I counted more than 20, including Dodrio, Charizard, Squirtle, Pidgey, and possibly Snubbull. It also includes a comedic interaction with Mr. Mime.
It stars Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom); Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird); and Ken Watanabe (Godzilla). The film is set for a summer release and is directed by Rob Letterman.
Pokémon Detective Pikachu hits theaters next year on Friday, May 10th.
