Aaron Paul May Have Teased Walter White’s Return in El Camino

(Spoilers for Breaking Bad ahead)

The last time we saw Walter White (Bryan Cranston), he was walking through a meth lab with a bullet wound on his side. He was barely hanging onto life, taking his last moments to remember his fallen kingdom. All he left behind was a bloody handprint on a shiny instrument. An instrument that symbolized his attempts at making a better life but instead it corrupted and brought death. Walter was left lying on the floor as police officers walk into the building and approach his body.

That was the last of Heisenberg.

Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), who always seemed like the victim in Breaking Bad, made it out alive. El Camino, the Breaking Bad Netflix movie set to release on October 11, will show us what happened to Jesse after the events of Breaking Bad, but what about Walter White? Bryan Cranston’s infamous character has to be incorporated in the El Camino movie since he is the star of Breaking Bad.

This is not to take away from Jesse’s central role but in many ways, his actions and circumstances were largely based on the snowball of events that Walter White caused. Walter does not have to get a prominent role but he will most likely be in the movie in some way. A recent Instagram post by Aaron Paul could hint at Walter White’s return, but it’s vague:

The caption “Hello old friend” could mean many different things. At first glance, he could be talking to the audience but the singular friend does not support that. He could be referencing his old cooking suit, which has become synonymous with the series. However, he could also be saying hello to his old “friend” Walter – either of the last two ideas seems more likely. If Walter will return then it could happen in several different ways but these upcoming ideas are the most likely.

First, Walter could probably come back in a flashback or vision. I would assume that the writers want Walt to stay dead because it fits best with the Breaking Bad narrative. Jesse will definitely be haunted by the events of Breaking Bad, so it is possible that Walter White might show up as a figment of Jesse’s imagination. The pains that Walt caused will still be alive in his death. Another possibility is a flashback. There was a lot of time spent in that RV cooking meth and the writers could easily create a new scene from that.

There is a chance that Walt could be alive but in jail – maybe even awaiting death. This could build some intense scenes where Walter could still communicate with some of the characters. It would be like Firelord Ozai talking to Zuko after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender (for those Avatar fans out there). Both of these theories would be fun to see but I’m betting on a flashback.

Do you want to see Walter White in El Camino and in what way do you want to see him? Let us know in the comments.
