Adult Swim had ordered a new show from Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. The pair is known for creating the hit Fox series King of the Hill, which will soon be rebooted on Hulu. Judge is also the creator of Beavis and Butthead and Daria. According to Deadline, the pair have reunited to executive produce Common Side Effects, a new half-hour comedy created by Joe Bennett (Cake, Scavengers Reign) and Steve Hely (American Dad, Veep). The show will center on former high school lab partners Marshall and Frances, who begin to pull apart a conspiracy involving big pharma and the federal government to keep the world from discovering a rare mushroom that could potentially cure all the world’s diseases.
Mike Judge & Greg Daniels Announce Common Side Effects
Adult Swim clearly has high standards to bring on a show from Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. The pair have had great success as a duo and individually. Judge has King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead, and Daira to his name. Those shows were so successful enough to earn reboots and sequels. Along with the King of the Hill reboot, Beavis and Butthead has been revived on Paramount+, and a Daria spin-off movie entitled Jodie is in the works. Judge also directed the cult classic comedy Office Space. Daniels has written several successful episodes of The Simpsons and was the co-creator of Parks and Recreation. He also wrote, directed, and produced several episodes of The Office.
Adult Swim began in 2001 on Cartoon Network, and it only continues to grow in popularity. The network largely helped in reviving Family Guy in 2005, and it’s had highly-successful original shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Rick and Morty. Time will tell if Mike Judge and Greg Daniels’ new show Common Side Effects will be Adult Swim’s latest hit.
