Dating games are classics, with different genres for all tastes. Some of them feature a boy with many waifus or a reverse harem in which handsome boys surround the girl. Some also focus on the possibility of customizing your avatar and other mechanics like cooking and dress up. So, what could AI2U With You ‘Til The End offer in a market with so much competition? This game mainly has an AI engine to generate dialogue and voice. Yes, AI is a delicate subject, especially in creative works, but this game could be going in a better direction than other AI that has replaced human labor. I’m not such a supporter of using AI, but AI2U With You ‘Til The End provides personalized gameplay with dialogs molded to each of your answers and liking.
Meet Your New Girlfriend or Run For Your Life
In AI2U With You ‘Til The End, the main gimmick is to open different doors, with a possible ideal girlfriend for you in each one. Talking to them and getting to know them in depth is the ideal way to make them fall in love with you enough so that they don’t want to kill you. That’s right; these girlfriends are not just cute, loving characters, but yandere who will lose their patience if you don’t pay enough attention to them or blatantly ignore them. That’s why the second most crucial point of the game is to run away from them, like in an escape room. Complete puzzles, find the keys, and distract them to escape from their toxic and obsessive love. Each level, or each room of one of these girls, has its theme that will affect the puzzles or hidden easter eggs.
The biggest kicker is that this game has no dialogue; well, not exactly. In AI2U With You ‘Til The End, the dialogs work with AI, so the girl will ask you certain questions depending on what you type, and that can help you escape or have one of the many tragic endings. This game has a lot of replayability, and each attempt can take you just a couple of minutes or go on for hours if you want to find everything. For this reason, AI2U managed to catch my curiosity quickly.
Search Every Nook and Cranny
As I mentioned, there is a different girl on each floor or level in a unique setting, which you must explore in depth to find one of the exits. For example, on the first level is the Cat Girl, a Vtuber who loves video games, painting, and dancing. This girl’s home is a cozy apartment with several rooms full of her hobbies and pictures of cats or cute things. As you explore, you quickly find that you can cook things for her, repair a figurine, use her PC, etc. Right here is where things got harder. For the PC, you must find out its password, which you can do by talking about the girl’s favorite food, or she can reveal it to you, but only if you have enough trust.
Trust is also essential with your girlfriends, and you can increase it by talking to them or doing some of their hobbies. When the trust improves, a smiley face emoji with hearts appears over their heads. However, you should also be careful about lowering the trust; if you drift apart from them or start investigating in the house alone, they will react with discomfort. I can’t stress this enough, but please never leave them without an answer for too long, ignore them, or accidentally push them; this could lead to your unfortunate end.
Speaking of endings, there are several endings with every girl. Again, using the Cat Girl as an example, she hates to leave her apartment, but you can gain her trust by letting you go out or convincing her to go out with you. You can also try to open the door on your own and escape at full speed. However, don’t be afraid to experiment. The game has more endings, or you can try to have different “dates” depending on the items you get. I haven’t seen the full scope of the game as it was only a preview, but I was able to discover so many things in such a short time that I feel I only scratched the surface.
Text or Voice Chat
As expected, communication is vital to AI2U With You ‘Til The End. The first thing that caught my attention was the dialogue. In general, they are flat, and many times, they repeat what we have just answered, but not that they are bad per se. The more I played, the more I was impressed by how the girls could answer about anything. I did several tests on different topics, and my gamer girlfriend could make a superficial talk about it and thread it to more questions.
In one part, she wanted to play video games and asked about my favorites, to which I told her I loved The Legend of Zelda. I was shocked that the Cat Girl liked it and said, “Let’s go to Hyrule.” The same thing happened when I talked about Genshin Impact, in which she went into more detail, mentioning her favorite character, Fischl, and even talked slightly about team comps with my Mavuika.
Out of curiosity, I also tried talking to the girls in other languages, even though my game’s default language is English. She answered perfectly in English to something I said in Spanish; I even tried Japanese, and she taught me some things about grammar. So, if you are looking for a learning partner or someone to be a fangirl, the AI2U girls are an excellent company. This can be done through typing, although the game also has a voice chat option.
In general, I noticed that they can figure out what you meant, even with bad writing or misspellings. My girlfriend got angry only once because I couldn’t spell butter correctly, and she took it as I was cursing and got upset. Also, sometimes the dialogue can be repetitive, with phrases like “I would do anything to be by your side always,” but you can understand why they are like that since they are obsessed with us.
Is AI the Issue?
I personally disagree with using AI for things related to the creative world, like illustration, movies, or writing. However, with AI2U With You ‘Til The End, the AI is used in an intriguing way, and one I wasn’t expecting to be so addictive. Fortunately, the team created the game assets, not AI. The developers did a great job on each level, although my favorite part is The Atrium. For the dialogues, it’s incredible how we guide the conversation to our convenience. However, I believe that with a writer’s help, the team could train the system better to make it more natural.
My biggest complaint is the voices, not exactly because they are somewhat flat, but because they completely replaced voice actors. I don’t know if there is a way to balance this since one person can’t record all the millions of dialogues possible in a game like this. This is a real challenge, but at least the AlterStaff team didn’t leave everything in the hands of a computer, and that’s a big step forward.
Although I initially had low expectations, AI2U quickly caught my attention with the chat system and themed waifus. I wanted to discover the secrets and all the endings of each level as soon as possible, so in the end, I lost track of time. I enjoyed the game’s style, models, and assets, but the best thing is that I didn’t encounter any major issues that interfered with my gaming experience.
