A Minnesota tourist got quite the shocker when their shower dial burst in their Airbnb, blasting water out of the wall. The incident allegedly happened around 1 am, when they attempted to shut off the shower; the cold-water dial suddenly flew off, and with it, an explosive stream of water. The tenant didn’t report any injuries, but over ten thousand online users found the situation both comical and frustrating.
“Airbnb says we’re getting a refund thankfully,” Reddit user XxMrCoolGuyxX sighed in relief. They claim the water pressure in the shower was horrid, and it was “probably because the cold dial was waiting to explode any moment,” they added. Numerous people in the comments claimed the same happened to them, while others shared their abhorrence of OP paying for an Airbnb service.
Multiple Commenters Claimed the Same Accident Happened to Them, With One Saying It Could Have Caused Serious Injury
“Do you happen to be staying in a cartoon because that’s the only place I’ve seen this happen,” remarked one person in r/mildlyinfuriating. Another recalled how dangerous it could have been if XxMrCoolGuyxX were standing in front of the explosion. “I’ve had this happen to me before,” wrote the commenter. “The valve flew off so hard it left a chip in the tile. I was in the shower when it happened. Lucky it didn’t hit me.”
Luckily, OP claimed they “had the towel around my waist and the shower cap on and everything” but didn’t report getting hurt. Hazardous shower accidents aside, others berated the Minnesota tourist for using Airbnb. “Stop using AirBNB. It’s a cancer on this world,” snapped one Redditor. “Stay in a hotel. Airbnb ruins neighborhoods,” added another.
Hate for Airbnb has been an ongoing trend for a while now, with plenty of social media posts sharing their horrifying experiences, such as being forced to sleep on the floor or being locked indoors. In XxMrCoolGuyxX’s case, the shower incident was only “mildly infuriating” since Airbnb ended up compensating them.
Though, whether it’s at home, an Airbnb, or elsewhere, the low water pressure that the tenant mentioned about the shower was a telltale sign that something was definitely wrong, according to Big City Plumbing.
