If you’ve ever been told by somebody that you “have a big mouth,” you likely took offense to it. But one woman in Alaska sees her massive mouth gape as a positive aspect. Marie Pearl Zellmer Robinson just made the world record books for the biggest gape in the world. She never even considered that her mouth might be able to break a record. It wasn’t until she took notice of the previous holder of the world record. So, she decided to put her money where her mouth is.
One day, Robinson was watching a video featuring Samantha Ramsdell, the 2021 Largest mouth gape Guinness World Record holder with an impressive 2.56-inch gape. When Robinson watched the video, she thought to herself, “Huh, that’s funny. I could fit that kind of stuff in my mouth too! Hey, I wonder if I can beat her.” She decided to take matters to her dentist, who measured her mouth gape at the new record of 2.98 inches, the largest mouth gape ever seen on a woman thus far.
To see Robinson in videos, you wouldn’t believe that she was able to fit an entire can of soup or five Jenga blocks in her mouth without breaking a sweat. But the Alaska woman did it! She claims that she joked about being able to fit huge objects in her mouth when she was younger but never actually thought it would lead to breaking a world record.
She stated, “I’ve always kind of known I had a big mouth. I talk a lot, and apparently, I do have a physically big mouth, but we never really did anything about it.” She even says that she tends not to show off the size of her mouth to people she meets because it creeps them out, even though the concept itself is cool and fascinating.
This is not the first time that Robinson attempted to be a part of a world record. In 2013, she was well on her way to joining in on the world’s largest Wellington boot race, but, unfortunately, she was unable to get off of work.
She sees her impressive gape as a redeeming factor for her. “Now I get to join the rest of them and have a Guinness World Records title with a lot of other people in town.” Now, she will always be wearing her smile with pride!
