Shueisha announced Thursday that Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga has set a new Guinness World Record. As of now, the manga has surpassed 500 million copies published worldwide. Since July 2021, the manga has had 490 million copies in worldwide circulation, counting both physical and digital versions. This new record for One Piece still counts the different versions (digital and physical).

This number comes with and counts the release of the 103 compiled volumes released the same day (Thursday). 416,556,000 of those copies have been confirmed to be in Japan. The other 100 million are in 60 countries and territories outside of Japan. The manga originally set its own Guinness World Record in June 2015 for having over 300 million copies worldwide. The world record for that is officially titled: “The Most Copies Published for the Same Comic Book Series by a Single Author.” With today’s announcement, the One Piece manga has broken its own record.
‘One Piece’s’ Manga Record: From Manga to Worldwide and Platform-Wide Title
This has proven to be a massive year for the One Piece franchise. As the manga is entering its final arc, the anime has also stolen the spotlight once again with the upcoming One Piece: Red movie. Even with these projects, the One Piece train is still rolling with new games, a recent 25th-anniversary celebration, and a live-action series in the works.
One of the toned-down releases for the franchise also includes a new set of novels. With the release of One Piece: Red in theaters, an original novel will be coming in the near future. Shueisha is listing that the novel will be released on August 9th under its Jump J-Books imprint.
Oda first began serializing One Piece in 1997. At first, the series was a part of Shukan’s Shonen Jump weekly comic magazine. Currently, Viz Media is publishing the manga title in North America.
The One Piece manga can be found here, while consistently updating episodes of the anime can be found on Crunchyroll.
