Alec Baldwin has a few regrets about his nasty divorce from his estranged wife, Kim Basinger. On a recent episode of TLC’s The Baldwin, the director spoke about the toll his divorce took on their daughter Ireland when the custody battle began. Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger were married for nearly two decades until their 2002 split.
Alec added that the media had a field day over his protracted misery in court. He stated that the divorce lasted for seven years with “about a year and a half” on financials. The remaining 5+ years bordered on custody issues. Alec added that the public battle was “just insanity” and “really, really tough” on him and his daughter.
Per Page Six, Alec expresses regret over how his custody battle affected Ireland. During their contentious split, an angry voicemail he left for his daughter was leaked. The actor referred to Ireland as a “rude, little pig” and called Kim “a thoughtless pain in the ass.”
The Actor and His Daughter Are Now in a Good Place
Alec lost visitation rights after his outburst and later apologized for losing his cool. Years have gone by since then, and the actor noted that he and Ireland now have a great relationship. The actor also moved on with their new wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and they share seven children.
Alec described Ireland as a nurturing figure, likening her to a supportive older sister to her younger half-siblings. He emphasized her affection for the children, highlighting that she maintains a distinct role within the family dynamic. His regrets about the custody battle left him with valuable lessons to carry through life.
Alec expressed his focus on his daughter Carmen, saying, “I want to have a good relationship with her.” He also mentioned that he has improved his relationship with his ex-wife. Kim bore testament to it when she told a new outlet that they have a great relationship. Kim added that although they do not spend holidays together, they still share a genuine bond.
As for his big family with Hilaria, PEOPLE gathered that Alec noted that he would not change a thing. His wife also joked about not giving maternity clothes away due to incessant pregnancy. Hilaria disclosed that the actor has not had a vasectomy despite several advice from her gynecologist. For now, the mother-of-seven is sure Ilaria, whom she had in 2023, is her last and final pregnancy.
Alec Baldwin Is Yet To Get Over His Closed Set Shooting Case
Despite resolving his domestic issues, We reported in January that Alec is experiencing melancholy over his dropped charges. The prosecutor reportedly abandoned their appeal regarding the manslaughter charges against him, just days before the holiday season. Close sources indicate that his legal team has assured him that any attempts to revive these charges have concluded. The actor remains hopeful, drawing comfort from the reassurances provided by his lawyers.
The insider added that the incident, which occurred more than three years ago, has left a significant emotional distress. Alec reportedly continues to struggle with post-traumatic stress due to legal proceedings. The prosecutors allegedly created an intense moment during the court actions on September 4. Their attempt was unsuccessful, as the judge, to the delight of Baldwin’s lawyers, denied the appeal the next day.
Alec’s troubles began in 2021 when he mistakenly killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set. The misfired revolver prop incident also resulted in injuries to director Joel Souza. Alec and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Redd were subsequently both charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter.
