‘Better Call Saul’ Alum Quits Amazon Gig, Says Acting Wasn’t Sustainable: ‘I’ve Always Had to Grind Regular Jobs’

After going viral for revealing he was delivering packages for Amazon, “Better Call Saul” actor John Christian Love has officially quit the job and is pursuing new non-acting opportunities. While continuing to audition for roles, Love, who played Ernesto/Ernie in the series, says the experience reinforced his lifelong approach: balancing his passion for acting with steady work to pay the bills.

Better Call Saul’s John Christian Love Opens Up on the Grind

“Quick update — I actually quit Amazon a few days ago,” Love shared in a chat with Page Six, noting he is currently interviewing for other non-acting roles and had applied to several before handing in his notice. “The rural routes were destroying my body,” he explained, referring to his current health issues.

“Acting has never paid the bills on its own — not even with 11 episodes of ‘Better Call Saul,’” he said. “I’ve always had to grind regular jobs, and I pour 110 percent into every single one of them, just like I do with every role.” Love added, “I’ve never been able to just sustain on just acting alone. I’ve always had day jobs.”

Even promising projects, like the film Lone Wolf with Bryan Cranston, Lily Gladstone, and Chet Hanks, fell through. “This just happened to be one of those bizarre cases where the production company ran out of money,” he said.

Despite setbacks, Love remains focused on his craft and hopes to land a feature film or TV series regular role. “I would love a feature film where I’m a leading man in the film, whether it’s a B-list, C-list,” he said. “It’s what I love, but I still got to pay bills.”

Fans Wonder If Better Call Saul Role Didn’t Pay Off

In response to his viral post, fans asked why he still struggled financially after portraying Ernie on the show. One asked, “Serious question, was that role not enough to continue acting as a career?” Love responded, “I haven’t given up on it, just really slow right now. And BCS wasn’t the breakout I was hoping. Did a significant film working opposite Lily Gladstone / Bryan Cranston but film ran out of money and I was never paid…”

Others suggested reaching out to Bryan Cranston for gigs, but Love clarified, “Bryan Cranston got paid, he could care less…”

When asked how he was fighting to get his money, the actor said, “Don’t have a lawyer, it is in Arbitration with my union, SAG-AFTRA right now — I had a contract, signed, they mismanaged money, and owe $2mill plus. Every lawyer, says the same, you want us to go after a broke company? The Producers filed bankruptcy? Hmmmmm….”

A commenter supped up: “Doing work and not getting paid because they ran out of money is insane, cannot believe this is legal. Good luck, brother.”

While navigating these hurdles, Love continues to audition, share his journey online, and seek stability outside Hollywood, all while keeping the dream of acting alive.
