Alec Baldwin‘s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, spills one of her husband’s best-kept secrets after the accidental Rust set shooting. The director’s wife shared that he strongly contemplated switching places with victim Halyna Hutchins. She revealed this in the second episode of their reality show The Baldwins, revealing the aftermath of the shooting. Alec pulled the trigger that killed Halyna, and Hilaria says “he has survivor’s guilt.”
Hilaria noted that Alec constantly wishes he was the one who died that day and not Hilaria. In her words, “He would change places in a second.” She also reveals the aftermath of that day continues to impact his mental and physical well-being severely. Alec’s wife reports he has been hospitalized several times due to heart issues and has fainted from guilt.
Per TMZ, the mother-of-seven shared that the recent court cases and lawsuits have taken a toll on everyone involved. She discussed how the series of court hearings has put the actor and his team through a challenging ordeal. Despite the difficulties, she remains hopeful they will see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Alec Baldwin Reportedly Has PTSD From the ‘Rust’ Shooting

Hilaria’s emotional account bolsters confessions from Alec himself on the show. The actor, who has been dealing with OCD in the past, has now added PTSD to the pile. Hilaria mentioned that everyone close to her husband has bore witness to his declining health.
We previously shared that Alec confessed that he is much “happier when asleep” than when awake. The episode’s shooting coincided with a hearing for his involuntary manslaughter charges. After the episode was filmed, the actor’s manslaughter case was dismissed. The tear-jerking nature of the episodes has not stopped critics from slamming the new TLC show.
Lucy Mangan of The Guardian says the series is a “new low for television” and represents “poor taste.” Mangan called the Baldwins’ mentions of Hutchins’ death “entirely unnecessary” for the show. Other critics also ripped the show for failing to restore the actor’s image following the 2021 shooting.
Alec Baldwin Is Trusting His Lawyers’ Assurance That the ‘Rust’ Case Is Truly Over

In addition to his health issues, the actor still harbors fear that the prosecutors may change their minds. We reported earlier that the prosecutors dropped their appeal on the manslaughter charges against him just before the holidays. Close sources indicate that his legal team has promised him that any efforts to revive these charges have ended.
The actor stays optimistic, finding comfort in his lawyers’ reassurances. The temporary comfort has, however, done little to soothe the emotional turmoil he struggles with. Prosecutors created an intense moment during the September 4, 2024, court proceedings. Fortunately, their attempt was unsuccessful, as the judge denied the appeal the following day.
Alec’s misfired a revolver prop on the closed set in 2021. The bullet killed Halyna, the on-set cinematographer for Rust, injuring director Joel Souza. The actor and set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Redd was subsequently charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter.
Hilaria and Alec Baldwin’s new show is another way they are navigating the shooting aftermath.
