With just a week until its release, The Northman has unleashed a new trailer that fans won’t want to miss. The Northman is set to debut only in theaters on April 22. To bring those unaware up to speed, The Northman follows the brutal vengeance tale of Amleth, a warrior Prince out for blood. As a child, he witnessed the slaying of his father, giving him no choice but to flee. Many years later, Amleth is ready to face his enemy. The film comes from horror director Robert Eggers, who gave us The Witch and The Lighthouse. Both titles received critical acclaim.
Vikings Will Rise in the Name of Revenge With The Northman
“I cannot escape my fate.”
Robert Eggers appears to be diving into new territory for his third film, The Northman. The new official trailer for The Northman is filled to the brim with sharp and gritty action. We are spared the blood and guts for now, but there is an overpowering presence of rage that you can sense. Amleth must rescue his mother from his backstabbing uncle, the one responsible for his father’s murder.
If that sounds familiar, that’s because the tale of Amleth directly inspired the creation of Prince Hamlet by William Shakespeare. However, Amleth is more confrontational than the Prince of Denmark. To see what we mean, check out the trailer above.
The Northman comes to theaters on April 22nd. It stars Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth, with Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe in supporting roles. Eggers and Sjón, a poet and novelist from Iceland, wrote the screenplay.
