At the beginning of the trailer, we see that Alice is in a madhouse, with a few doctors trying to cure her from her “female hysteria.” After Alice seemed to be leaving on an adventure at the end of the last film, it comes as a bit of a surprise to see her confined to London once more. However, Alice will not be staying there long – Underland awaits.
Much of the original cast is returning, including Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar (now a Butterfly). Alice Through the Looking Glass was the final film Rickman lent his voice to before he passed away. The new trailer also reveals that the Mad Hatter, played by Johnny Depp, is apparently in need of some sort of help. A new villain called Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) must be defeated in order for Alice to save her friend.
The new trailer uses the same song as the previous one, but it is no less impactful. Pink’s cover of “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane really sets the tone for what this movie will be all about – another weirdly enchanting adventure through the mind of Alice.
Alice Through the Looking Glass releases on May 27.
