After seven years of waiting, the teaser trailer for the next Alien installment — Alien: Romulus — is finally here. Straight from the mind of Fede Álvarez, director of Don’t Breathe and the 2013 Evil Dead remake, Alien: Romulus will be set between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) and follows a new group of young explorers who discover the terrifying extraterrestrials known as Xenomorphs.
The Alien: Romulus Teaser Showcases Cailee Spaeny’s Protagonist
The Alien: Romulus cast consists of Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, all in undisclosed roles. The teaser focuses primarily on Spaeny’s character, who is presently nameless, as she explores a run-down spacecraft harboring Xenomorphs. Spaeny is known for portraying Priscilla Presley in the biopic Priscilla and for her minor role as Rose Summerspring in Bad Times at the El Royale.
Her co-star, 22-year-old Isabela Merced, recently played Anya Corazón / Araña in Marvel’s Madame Web. She is an up-and-coming Peruvian actress who got her big break as CJ Martin on the Nickelodeon television series 100 Things to Do Before High School.
In the minute-long teaser, as the camera pans over various sections of the dilapidated spacecraft, we hear the voices of the main cast crying out for help. As the camera reaches what appears to be a containment pod, we see that it is covered in blood. One of the characters then screams over a series of squishing sound effects, presumably to imitate flesh being torn apart.
A male voice says “Run” and we cut to a montage of images, most prominently a hoard of Facehuggers descending on one character and (who we believe to be) Cailee Spaeny’s character walking trepidatiously down a corridor. We get our first close-up shortly after as Spaeny treads cautiously towards the camera armed with a futuristic weapon of sorts.
Alien: Romulus is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 16, 2024.
