Your character can take on a variety of classes in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Each class has its advantages and disadvantages depending on your team’s makeup. Every class or archetype can develop themselves further by choosing a new archetype once they reach Level 16. But which archetype is the best and which prevents you from crushing your foes? Here is the best class for each Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader role and how all classes can stand out.

The Best Starting Archetypes

The best classes in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader start from the first archetypes you can choose from. Every character can choose from :

  • Warrior
  • Officer
  • Operative
  • Soldier

For the best tank class, the Warrior is the best as they are built for close combat. Soldiers make the best ranged class because they have abilities that support ranged weapons. Officers have the best support skills, while Operatives are better at long-range support. The Operative class isn’t used as much when making a character as other classes provide better skills and utility.

There isn’t a “best starting class” among the four archetypes as it depends on how you want to build your character. It’s also possible to develop them even more with the archetypes they unlock at Level 16.

Depending on the starting archetype you chose at the beginning, the following classes are available to you:

  • Assassin
  • Vanguard
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Master Tactician
  • Grand Strategist
  • Arch-Militant

The best classes from these are:

  • Master Tactician: Great power as momentum builds and can inflict great pain on enemies. Consuming their own stacks isn’t difficult and building momentum is even easier. With proper support from your teammates, there aren’t many enemies who can stand up to your power. It takes time to work up to a Master Tactician, but it’s great for Psykers and Officers.
  • Grand Strategist: They have a talent that allows them to start their turn first, allowing you to set up various strategies. It’s also possible to take out enemies, making it easier for your companions to fight against more even odds. Just like the Master Tactician, this class takes a while to develop but it will soon become unstoppable.
  • Arch-Militant: Great for Soldiers who specialize in long-range combat and possibly some Warriors who could use a ranged weapon. Their talents are great at taking out enemies from afar or dealing damage to multiple enemies. Having two different weapon types makes them adaptable to any situation you might encounter.

The Assassin, Bounty Hunter, and Vanguard classes are great as well but have more situational utility. They aren’t dominating the battlefield as often as the other classes and mostly stick to taking out one enemy at a time. That doesn’t mean you can’t build around them and make them powerhouses. But an Arch-Militant is going to have more success on the battlefield than an Assassin since they can take out enemies quickly.
