For those looking to unleash the epic Musou Attacks of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there are many weapons to pick from that will let you decimate the battlefield with ease. However, a few of them feel much better to use than others. While you’ll eventually use all of them to unlock new ranks and skills, there are some that stand out as the best weapons in the game, and for that reason, we’ve ranked these armaments from worst to best.
10. Staff
Despite being a cool-looking weapon and checking every box on the Black Myth: Wukong-esque playstyle, there are a few things we don’t like about the staff. First, its heavy attack isn’t as fun to pull off as others. You start spinning the staff around to smack enemies and can even run toward other foes while spinning the weapon. On paper, it sounds cool. However, controlling the spinning while moving part is a bit weird and clunky, so we tend to leave this weapon back in our tent.
9. Wheels
Wheels are actually fun to use, but the skill ceiling is a bit high, especially for new players. However, once you get the gimmick down, they can be some of the most destructive weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. See, to make the most out of them, you have to finish a light-attack combo or make a normal heavy attack and wait for the wheels to return. If you time it right, you’ll follow up with a devastating attack. It all sounds great, but again, getting the gimmick right is what makes using Wheels so difficult for some.
8. Twin Pikes
The Twin Pikes have some of the most fun Battle Arts in the game. Still, their heavy attack is a bit weird in most scenarios. The Twin Pikes mechanic is performing a heavy attack and then pressing the button repeatedly to continue smashing enemies and then finishing off with a devastating attack that you can even enhance if you time the button press right. However, there isn’t a thing like “hyper armor” when performing repeated attacks, which means many enemies tend to interrupt your combo, especially in the early game. However, once you increase your proficiency, things get more fun. Still, the early hours with Twin Pikes are not that great.
7. Lance
Out of all the weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, this one feels like the most tank-like. It works like Black Panther‘s suit, where the weapon absorbs enemies’ hits and then counterattacks with a devastating move. Pulling this off is one of the most satisfying things in any battle. However, the weapon lacks other early-game functions or notable battle arts, which means playing with a Lance will feel stale until you manage to level it up. Still, it is a nice weapon to have, especially for newcomers.
6. Spear
When it comes to range and versatility, the Spear is almost second to none. We say almost because the next one is a bit better. Spears have different moves, such as charged heavy attacks, long-range spammable moves, and a lot of directional attacks that can let you clear waves of enemies with ease. In truth, there’s nothing bad about this weapon, but we feel the next one performs much better in terms of Battle Arts and normal moves.
5. Crescent Blade
You’ll unlock the Crescent Blade a bit late into the game, but we can understand why. Despite its size, this weapon is quite fast and has an excellent range. Plus, if you perform combos, you can enhance the weapon and increase its damage as you fight, making the gameplay loop of the Crescent Blade quite enjoyable. It is as versatile as the Spear, but it feels miles better to use.
4. Sword
The trusty Sword might be your only weapon for a while and we wouldn’t blame anyone for using this only until the game’s final battle. It is fast and easy to use, it has fun combos, with a few more unlocking as you level up, and the Battle Arts are excellent against all types of enemies. Yet, its lack of range is the only thing that doesn’t put this weapon in a higher spot. The sword, however, is the best weapon for beginners and one that will let everyone get the hang of the game before trying different armaments.
3. Podao
While many might be against placing the Podao as one of the best weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins due to how its charged attacks work, it actually feels like the whole package. When wielding a Podao, you can charge an attack up to different levels. Depending on how much you charge, you’ll perform a different and stronger move. The great thing is that you can move while charging and even dodge, which is a huge bonus. Yet, the best thing about the Podao is its different Battle Arts, with one of them even leaving a trail of fire to interrupt enemies’ special arts.
2. Gauntlets
As soon as you unlock the Gauntlets, you’ll see why they are among our favorites. The gimmick behind this weapon is pressing the heavy-attack button to switch stances. Once you’re in a stance, you can press the light or heavy-attack button again to perform different actions. This works when blocking, attacking normally, and even dodging. Out of all weapons, this feels like the most versatile to use and usually doesn’t feel like you’re just button-mashing for the sake of it. Plus, the Battle Arts you unlock for it are among some of the best, and the Musou Attack animation is superb.
1. Halberd
You all knew we had to place the Halberd as the top weapon, and if you’ve unlocked it, you know why. This is the last weapon you’ll get after beating the game once. Right off the bat, it is one of the fastest, with the best range and smoothest combos that are as easy to pull off as they are destructive. Plus, the only weapon art it has at level 1 is enough to clear hundreds of enemies at once. Wielding it will certainly make you feel like one of Dynasty Warriors‘ most iconic characters.
