Elements in Honkai: Star Rail provides players with more than special attacks and flashy cutscenes. You can use particular elemental characters to your advantage to place damaging effects on enemies. Thanks to the Weakness Break system, this can ultimately lead to you having consecutive attacks, but also faster, easy fights against the toughest of opponents. This guide will examine all elements in Honkai: Star Rail and when it is the right time to use each one.

All Elemental Effects in Honkai: Star Rail

In the midst of battles, you will notice particular symbols near enemies’ health bars. These signify which elemental characters can deal Weakness Breaks to them, effects that lend additional damage to their Toughness. Additionally, an enemy’s Toughness is measured directly below these symbols, being displayed via the white bar above its health. These Breaks can also result in stunning an enemy for a short period, meaning the opponent’s turn will be skipped if successful. So, it is best to add members of a certain element into your party when entering areas with enemies who are weakest to it.

As each element type deals Weakness Breaks in different fashions, you can find all seven elements and their full effects below.

  • Physical
    • Weakness Breaks dealt with Physical damage result in a bleeding effect, dealing Physical damage over time to an opponent.
  • Ice
    • Ice attacks that trigger a Weakness Break temporarily freeze opponents and deal additional Ice damage.
  • Wind
    • Weakness Breaks with Wind Attacks cause Wind Shear, allowing enemies to take in more Wind damage over time.
  • Fire
    • Fire attacks’ Weakness Breaks apply a Burn effect that deals Fire damage over time.
  • Lightning
    • Weakness Breaks from Lightning attacks lead to enemies being shocked, dealing additional Lightning for a short period.
  • Quantum
    • Quantum Weakness Breaks result in Entanglement, delaying the enemy’s action and dealing extra Quantum damage at the start of the next turn. If the enemy is hit multiple times, the damage will increase.
  • Imaginary
    • Imaginary attacks causing Weakness Break lead to Imprisonment. This effect delays an enemy’s action and reduces their Speed stats.

If you are unsure which elements your characters use, you can click on the symbol near their name in the top-right corner of the Character Details menu for more details. However, this menu also allows you to view your Trailblazer Level and apply Light Cones to receive stats boosts.

Honkai: Star Rail is available on PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
