Many Mortal Kombat 1 characters were teased during last night’s Summer Game Fest 2023 event. The new trailer for this game focused on showing the gameplay. However, we saw familiar yet looking different faces in the showcase. In the Mortal Kombat 1 Summer Game Fest gameplay trailer, we see a total of 13 characters. The background story of this trailer revolves around Liu Kang gathering warriors in Earthrealm. From mortal Raiden to Firegod Liu Kang, here’s every Mortal Kombat 1 character revealed in the latest trailer.

Who Are The Mortal Kombat 1 Characters?

  • Liu Kang
  • Scorpion
  • Sub-Zero
  • Kitana
  • Meleena
  • Johnny Cage
  • Kenshi
  • Raiden
  • Kung Lao
  • Striker
  • Sonya Blade
  • Kano
  • Shang Tsung

Liu Kang has become the new protector of this realm after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 in the new timeline. The Mortal Kombat 1 characters are nearly identical to those we saw in previous installments. But the point is that they have a new story and presumably a new look this time. Scorpion and Sun-Zero are not enemies here, and it seems Quan-Chi has not yet infected Hanzo Hasashi’s mind with lies. Meanwhile, Kitana tries to help Meleena in Edenia before her diseases worsen. This is a different approach to these characters, and if Meleena is cured, she won’t turn out to be the same as what we saw from her in the previous games.

With all the changes to these characters, Johnny Cage still seems to be the same famous rich guy as before! Someone who fights with Kenshi over his family’s sword and is confronted by Liu Kang to become a warrior for Earthrealm. This is when we see Raiden again, having his powers even as a mortal and not a god. At the end, Kung Lao is seen in the trailer while fighting Scorpion and Sub-Zero in a bar.

Mortal Kombat 1 Surprise Character Cameos

Aside from the mentioned characters, some other Earthrealm warriors are seen during the gameplay. They don’t have a specific dialogue in this trailer, but they will be in the roaster later with the game’s release. These Mortal Kombat 1 characters are Sonya Blade, Kano, and Striker.

Sonya Blade can be spotted in the middle of Raiden and Kenshi’s fight. She is wearing her old MK1 costume, which brings back some memories for many OG players. And then, we see Kano in the same scene, using his eye to laser the opponent. This is while Striker can also be seen in a fight scene of Liu Kang using his famous flashlight to blind the Firegod.

Are There More Characters Coming To MK1?

The answer is an absolute yes. What we saw so far are only the champions of the Earthrealm. Liu Kang is gathering these warriors to participate in the Mortal Kombat tournament. And this means we must wait until we see the warriors of the invading realm, the Outworld.

In the previous teaser of MK1, we saw that Shang Tsung came to Earthrealm through a portal. He is probably there to offer a new Mortal Kombat tournament, and by the rules, the Outworld has the right to do so. But Shang Tsung is not alone in this fight. He will probably have the likes of Kintaro, Goro, Baraka, Rain, Reiko, and maybe even Shao Kahn at his side.
