Alwa’s Legacy is coming to Nintendo Switch after a highly successful release on Steam in June. It is a follow-up to the acclaimed Alwa’s Awakening platformer from indie developer Elden Pixels. Mikael Forslind, Game Designer for Elden Pixels, had this to say:
We’re so excited that Alwa’s Legacy has finally launched on Nintendo Switch. It has been quite a complicated and confusing year, which has meant that Nintendo players have had to wait a little longer to experience our love letter to the metroidvania genre. But we are immensely proud of what we’ve created and the wait was worth it. We’ve been able to add small improvements here and there in this time and now we’re launching with the definitive Nintendo Switch version of Alwa’s Legacy.“
The game follows the main character Zoe, who is embarking on her quest home after saving the world in Alwa’s Awakening. However, she awakens into a strange but oddly familiar world caught in the clutches of a curse. Using Zoe’s magic staff, players must navigate the land of Alwa, solve puzzles, fend off monsters, delve through dungeons, and avoid traps all while meeting an enchanting cast of characters.
Alwa’s Legacy is designed to fit your playstyle whether it be offense, defensive or explorative. With magical upgrades, you can find new pathways through nonlinear worlds by summoning blocks to climb on, bubbles to bounce off of, and lightning bolts to attack with. Stay on your toes to avoid pitfalls while you work your way through challenging and engaging rooms.
It has 16-bit inspired visuals that draw upon classic pixel art while giving it modern flourishes and effects. The original game, Alwa’s Awakening, inspired a dedicated fan following alongside excellent critic reviews. However, this is not necessarily a direct sequel and Alwa’s Legacy can be enjoyed on its own without needing to play the first.
The game can be purchased for Switch for $17.99.
