Angel Reese recently alarmed fans after revealing her WNBA salary isn’t enough to cover her expenses.
During an Instagram Live, the Chicago Sky rookie, who shot to superstardom during the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball season, joked that she’s currently “living beyond my means.” While answering fan questions about life, her many jobs, and off-season hobbies, Angel made a shocking revelation about her salary. “The WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” she said. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally.”
Later, she spoke with someone off-camera, likely her manager Jeanine, who calculated Angel’s monthly rent into a yearly total. “Yo! I’m living beyond my means,” Angel joked before revealing her rent is nearly $100,000 annually. “Yeah, that [WNBA check] ain’t doing a thing.”
Fans Slam Angel for Paying $8K in Monthly Rent
Of course, after Angel Reese’s video discussing her salary went viral, fans jumped into the comments of popular social media platforms to voice their opinions about her lifestyle. One thing people seemed to be most caught up about was the fact that Angel’s monthly rent was $8,000.
“8k for rent?!” a fan asked on Instagram. “I don’t care how much I make. Ain’t that much luxury in the world.” Meanwhile, another user commented, saying Angel should look into hiring someone to keep tabs on her spending. “That 8 thousand alone in rent is just ridiculous; look into a house,” they wrote.
Other users also chimed in, saying they felt Angel should be more humble about her blessings. “Be humble, baby; some things are better left unsaid,” someone commented. A fourth fan commented as well, saying Hollywood has a way of grounding those who are overly confident.
“Be careful, baby girl,” they wrote. “The industry can humble you for being outspoken.”
Angel Reese Has More Than Just Her WNBA Salary
Angel’s recent comments about money aren’t the first time she’s been under fire about her finances. At the beginning of October 2024, Reese made headlines after losing a $100,000 bet to Shaquille O’Neal. The WNBA sensation challenged the NBA champion, saying she’d pay him big money if he could make a free throw.
After he sunk the shot, Angel wrote on Instagram, “I guess I owe him $100k.”
Many fans were confused about how Angel, whose annual WNBA salary is around $74,000, would be able to pay. However, according to On3, Angel’s NIL valuation when leaving LSU was nearly $2 million. That number has only grown today considering the rising star’s new brand deals, including one with Reese’s, Reebok, and her podcast with Playmaker.
Although the figures for her brand deals are unclear, Angel seems unconcerned about funding her extravagant lifestyle. In addition to the WNBA and growing sponsorships, Angel will participate in a new 3×3 basketball league called Unrivaled this January. According to the contract, Reese will earn a $100,000 salary and an equity stake in the league.
