Angel Reese has a lot of haters these days, but her LSU peer, Livvy Dunne, has recently come to her defense. The NCAA champion spoke with Fox News during a recent interview, and she discussed all of the noise the Bayou Barbie has caused since joining the WNBA. In case you forgot, Angel first became a household name after beating Caitlin Clark in the 2023 NCAA women’s national championship game. As the clock was winding down, Reese did the “you can’t see me” hand wave to Clark. She also pointed to her ring finger, which others took as her boasting about the championship ring she’d soon have.
Since then, Angel has only been on the come-up, snagging brand deals left and right. Additionally, she left her mark on the league as a rookie, breaking the record for the most straight double-doubles in a season. Angel’s attitude, of course, has caused some bruised egos and hurt feelings, which has led to a number of threats and inappropriate social media interactions. Despite her swagger and confidence that some people can’t stand, according to Livvy, it’s what makes Angel a star.
Livvy Dunne Loves Watching Angel Reese Take the World by Storm
“I think Angel is misunderstood,” Livvy told Fox News. “That’s the best way to describe it.” Livvy, who’s also a powerhouse brand magnet, continued to praise Angel for her work ethic and “great” personality. “I think she’s a great person,” she said. “Every conversation I’ve ever had with her has been great.”
If you didn’t watch Angel’s breakthrough season in the WNBA this year, you missed out on the 6’3″ power forward’s stellar performance. In addition to her double-double record, the Chicago Sky star also averaged 13.1 PPG and 13.1 rebounds per game. She also led the league in rebounds before suffering a career-ending injury in September 2024.
“I think she’s extremely talented,” Livvy said. “I’ve enjoyed watching her; I love the things she stands for and bringing eyes to women’s athletics. I think she’s been dominant, and I can’t wait to watch her career unfold even more.”
According to a report, the WNBA’s merchandise sales were up over 500% during the 2024 season. Clark and Reese led the figures, coming in at No. 1 and 2, respectively. With their continued rise in popularity, it looks like the league will be in good hands for years to come.
