An angry Amazon worker in California was filmed attacking an older man following an alleged dispute over a parking spot.
It was alleged that the older man took the Amazon worker’s parking spot, prompting the worker to become angry. The worker then followed the man inside a gas station, where security camera footage captured what happened next.
In the video, the Amazon worker stood close to the older man and began threatening him while using racial slurs. “I will beat your [expletive], [n-word],” the worker said. The older man then appeared to try to walk away, turning his back to the worker. The worker then appeared to strike him in the back of the head, causing the older man to fall to the floor.
The older man managed to get back up, and the video ended seconds later. It is unclear whether the Amazon worker attacked him again after the footage stopped. According to claims circulating with the video, the victim was 71 years old and suffered a concussion. The Amazon worker was also reportedly arrested on allegations of felony battery and elder abuse. Those details have not been independently verified.
Beyond potential criminal charges, the alleged attack could also have employment consequences for the Amazon worker. Amazon could investigate the incident separately and take disciplinary action, including termination, depending on its findings.
Viewers Criticize California Amazon Worker After Attacking Elderly Man
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers quickly criticized the California Amazon worker over the attack on the older man. Some believed that he should face legal consequences for his conduct. “Throw this thug in jail, and the old man should sue Amazon and the driver. The thug is a racist [expletive],” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “Only the lowest of low brow animals attack the elderly. That makes them predators, but of course they are.”
More people continued to criticize the worker and question Amazon’s decision to employ him. “Who is Amazon hiring these days? That sort of behaviour reeks of an ex con given a job to help him back and turn his life around,” one person wrote. Another commenter asked, “I’m guessing that Amazon is relieving that driver of his services?!?!?!?” Someone else replied, “They better.”
The video sparked a broader conversation about avoiding losing one’s temper and becoming aggressive toward elderly individuals. This is regardless of the circumstances. It also led to discussion about how companies such as Amazon should respond when employees are accused of physically attacking someone. Some viewers argued that serious misconduct should result in immediate disciplinary action or termination.
