Sometimes parents lose their patience after repeatedly dealing with their children’s misbehavior. Warnings pile up, but the behavior doesn’t change. That’s exactly what happened with an angry Florida mom during a drive to school with her daughter.
In a video she shared, the mom explained that after her daughter refused to listen, she reached her breaking point and threw the girl’s iPad out of the car window. According to the mother, her daughter had been acting “crazy,” and the incident was meant to be a consequence for not stopping the bad behavior.
After dropping her kids off at school, the mom drove back to the spot where she had tossed the iPad to see if it was still there. Surprisingly, it was. She was able to pick it up and take it with her, bringing the moment full circle.
The Florida mom later posted an update describing what happened. She explained that her daughter usually doesn’t have her iPad with her before school. The only reason that she had it was that she was behaving well that morning and they wanted to reward her. Well, that good behavior didn’t last for long. When she began misbehaving, her mom threatened that she was going to throw the iPad away. Her daughter simply said, “I don’t care.” The mom then took the device away, and her daughter annoyed her more as she told her, “I knew that you wouldn’t throw it out the window.” That was when her mom made the promise come true. The little girl didn’t like that and started demanding that she let her out. She even wanted to go pick it up instead of going to school, but of course, this didn’t happen.
In another video, the mom admitted that she told her daughter that she went back and picked up her iPad. She did say, however, that she didn’t plan on giving it back to her anytime soon. The iPad also had some damage because of the impact when she threw it out of the car, but it’s her money at the end of the day. Maybe her daughter learned a valuable lesson this time.
People Reacting to the Florida Mom Throwing Her Daughter’s iPad Away
People were divided on whether what the Florida mom did was right or wrong. Those who agreed wanted the mom to keep the iPad with her as one woman wrote, “I literally work in child development, for the love of god; DO NOT GIVE IT BACK.” Another mom also said, “Don’t give it back! Buy a new case for it. Delete everything off of it and give back to her next Christmas. We did this once and it was the best thing ever. Way more grateful/respectful the second time around.” Someone else said, “Kids are so manipulative I noticed this with my nieces and nephews…they will test you and if you don’t stand on business they will run all over you‼” Another person added, “This is gentle parenting- gave a warning and stood on business.”
Those who disagreed with the Florida mom believed that she had anger issues. “Ooof. Let’s work on our anger management. Would you be cool if she got mad and threw her iPad or your phone out of the car? You have to model appropriate behaviors,” one person wrote. Another person said, “so lack of emotional control can be generational? Okay cool.” Even a woman who had a similar experience as a kid commented, “My mom did this with my cellphone and now her and I don’t talk. Please normalize managing our emotions as parents.” Parents would have different thoughts on whether this was a good reaction or not. The mom definitely thinks it was though.
