Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp gives you a pleasant taste of the popular series, and what better way to enjoy it than by smelling the roses? Or the daffodils. Or even the tulips. The game allows you to decorate your campsite as you see fit, including a large garden. The best way to acquire new flowers is to cross-pollinate, otherwise known as breeding. Our breeding guide will tackle how the cross-pollination feature works for flowers in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

When you first begin Pocket Camp, you’ll notice flowers in different areas of your campsite and when you visit friends. However, you can’t do much about them. You can wander over to the bubbly cactus known as Lloid, but he won’t gain you access yet. Instead, you must reach Level 3 in Pocket Camp first to earn a flower guide from him.

Once your garden is up and running, it’s time to grow some new flowers that you can’t always buy from Lloid. You’ll have to follow the breeding guide to gain these flowers in Pocket Camp. Thankfully, Lloid does plenty of explanation.

Once you plant your seeds, you can either wait for them to grow or speed up the process. Either way, you can only cross-pollinate fully-grown flowers. From there, it’s time to tackle the breeding guide to see if you’ll score some new Pocket Camp flowers:

  1. Harvest the flower(s) you want to use for breeding
  2. Go to another flower in the same family (i.e. roses with roses, tulips with tulips)
  3. Select the flower in question and choose the “X-Pollinate” icon

Flower Breeding Chances

There is no guarantee that anything will come out of breeding flowers in Pocket Camp even if you follow the guide exactly. This is because it’s mostly randomized. You can breed red with another red tulip and wind up with a yellow tulip one time, and the next time, you can end up with nothing. Or you can end up with the same red tulip you started with.

Color or “gene” dominance plays a large role here. For instance, the color dominance in tulips is listed below starting from strongest to weakest:

  • Red
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Black
  • Pink
  • Purple
  • White
  • Blue

To improve your chances of getting new breeds, consider using flowers from seeds you purchased from Lloid. They have the strongest chances of maintaining their original gene makeup. If you want the weakest in the gene pool, your best bet is to continue to cross-pollinate various tulips, working your way down the list until you arrive with blue ones.

Remember: it’s random. So, despite a breeding guide, it can take you ages to see every flower in Pocket Camp. But at least the game is enjoyable enough with plenty to do to make the time go by.
