One of the few games that I’m very excited about despite hearing nothing about is ANNO Mutationem. This hack and slash title from Beijing based developer ThinkingStars is incredibly beautiful. A vibrant 3D world combined with detailed 2D character models is something that never truly gets old. It’s a game that, once you see it, you know you want to get your hands on. Thanks to some news today, we now know we don’t have to wait too much longer. ThinkingStars and publisher Lightning Games announce that ANNO Mutationem releases on PC and PS4 in December of this year. You can find the latest trailer from today’s State of Play showing off the hectic gameplay and world below.

ANNO Mutationem is an action-adventure game at heart, pulling elements from RPG games. The game has you taking on the role of Ann, a highly-trained mercenary with the ability to kill extremely efficiently. In this cyberpunk metropolis, Ann is on a personal mission alongside her hacker sidekick Ayane. The story will explore not only Ann’s backstory but also the evil corporations that run every bit of the city. In a world wrought with corruption, Ann may be the only way to help bring peace to this beautiful, dark world.

Today’s trailer only enforces that promise of ANNO Mutationem’s beautiful world combined with fast-paced combat. There are many distinct locations with some lacking much color, and others brimming with shops and people. It’s clear the game makes the combat zones and traversal sections quite expansive, while also making individual sections unique. Making your way through the game should be a treat if those promises are not only met but also expanded upon.

Given what we’ve seen so far, I’m hopeful that ANNO Mutationem will truly live up to the hype. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this game though. Do you think these locations and the combat will be well refined? Are you going to purchase the game on release? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
