Ahead of Apex Legends’ Season 8 launching on February 2, developer Respawn Entertainment has offered players a first look at Fuse, the latest legend set to join the battle royale shooter. Sporting an effortlessly charming Aussie twang, Apex Legends’ sixteenth legend debuted today in the latest edition of Respawn’s stylized Stories from the Outlands video series.

Apex Legends | Stories from the Outlands – “Good as Gold”

According to Respawn, he’s ‘a blow-up-first ask-questions-later kinda guy,’ and the Outlands introduction treats us to a fast-paced slide show of the new hero’s formative moments and, above all, a serious penchant for explosives. From a mischievous childhood and the unearthing of a golden grenade to reaching the higher echelons of the gritty Bonecage fighting scene, we get a glimpse into the beats leading to Fuse securing a spot in the Apex Games and losing an arm in the process.

As for what Fuse will offer when it comes down to brass tacks, his abilities and kit remain under lock and key over at Respawn. We’ll presumably learn more as we edge closer to Season 8’s launch. However, according to data miners, and as reported by the folks over at Polygon, we have a hint about what’s in store. Fuse reportedly jumps into the fray armed with an Airbust Grenade as a tactical ability and a fire-spitting missile ultimate ability, evocatively dubbed The Motherlode.

As is customary with each new season, Season 8 introduces several changes to add some kick to Apex Legends’ battle royale cocktail. Among them, firstly we have a lever-action rifle dubbed the 30-30 Repeater alongside a fresh Battle Pass and ranked season. Additionally, expect a dramatic reshaping of the game’s original map, now referred to as ‘Obliterated Kings Canyon’ on the Apex Legends website.

Season 8, dubbed Mayhem, lands on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in a few short weeks on February 2.
