Not everything that glitters is gold, and that extends to Golden Bachelor weddings. Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner have announced their divorce, three months after their marriage as the first Golden Bachelor and season winner. Disappointment is rife among fans, and the divorce doesn’t bode well for future seasons. But if ex-Golden Bachelor contestant April Kirkwood is right, she saw this coming a mile away, and she’s not wasting a moment in saying so now that Theresa and Gerry are calling it quits. Never mind that the divorce has only been public for three days – April is saying “I told you so, Theresa!”
April Kirkwood Says She ‘Tried to Warn’ Theresa Nist About The Divorce
ABC’s The Golden Bachelor first premiered in September 2023. As the name suggests, the series centered around the love lives of people in their “golden years” people like Gerry Turner, 72. Gerry was the show’s inaugural Golden Bachelor, and he married winning Bachelorette Theresa Nist, 70, in a televised “Golden Wedding” back in January. The couple wouldn’t last very long, though, because Gerry and Theresa have just announced that they’re getting a divorce – and it hasn’t even been six months.
With the news of the divorce now public, fans of The Golden Bachelor have been faced with a serious question: should they have seen this coming? If Golden Bachelor’s April Kirkwood is to be believed, yes. April, 66, was another contestant, a therapist who was eliminated in week 4 of the competition. She also serves as proof that senior citizens or not, Golden Bachelor contestants aren’t without the pettiness that permeates reality TV. Just days after Theresa announced she was divorcing Gerry, April left a comment on her fellow contestant’s Instagram page:
“I wish you the very best…I truly tried to tell you, but this was your lesson to experience. Much love!”

Fans were, somewhat obviously, taken aback by her comment, and several following comments lashed out at April for making the divorce about herself or being wholly unable to read the room. April later responded to a fan who questioned her comment, releasing this statement:
“I care for all women in the world. I want us all to learn from each other and be smart and empowered. Lessons offer us the opportunity. We’ve all had our hearts broken…what we do with it is entirely up to us! Let’s rock this world ladies. Therese can lead the way!”

She would also issue an apology (while still in the comments of Theresa’s post), saying that she wanted to “publicly apologize” for her original comment and promising that she “sincerely meant no ill will.” As it stands right now, it looks like April’s “I told you so” has been taken down, but that doesn’t mean the fans – and her fellow contestants – won’t remember it. If there’s one thing that the incident and the divorce has proven, it’s that people aren’t above reality TV drama, no matter their age – and the future of The Golden Bachelor will be interesting, for sure.
