Arizona Nurse Blows the Whistle on Coworker Who Gave Patient Wrong Treatment on Purpose: ‘So Many Mean Girls in the Nursing Field’

She deserved to get fired

Nurses are supposed to care for their patients and make sure they receive the right treatment. That’s why it’s shocking to hear about one who deliberately did the opposite. This disturbing incident took place in Arizona, where a nurse exposed her coworker for intentionally giving a patient the wrong medication.

According to the whistleblower, they were caring for a female patient who suffered from severe allergic reactions that required IV Benadryl every 30 minutes. During these episodes, her body would break out in hives, and her voice would become squeaky. The Benadryl was essential to calm her symptoms.

But one day, the nurse’s coworker, identified only as Gabby, walked into the medication room giggling with her best friend. Then came the shocking revelation: instead of administering Benadryl, she had injected the patient with sterile water.

What’s truly infuriating isn’t just that Gabby intentionally gave the patient the wrong treatment it’s that she found it funny. She lied to the patient, telling her she had received Benadryl when it was actually just a saline flush. Later, Gabby bragged to her friend that her “little trick” worked because the patient said she felt better.

It’s beyond disgusting. Gabby even went so far as to claim the patient was faking her condition, using the saline flush as supposed “proof.” According to the nurse who exposed her, the patient was one of the kindest people she’d ever cared for, the type who might’ve simply said she felt better just to avoid being a bother to the staff.

Thankfully, the Arizona nurse didn’t stay silent. She shared how she went to her manager and the supervisor to report what happened. Her information also included the names of everyone who was in the room at the time, since they also should have spoken up. Their silence could have been because Gabby is one of the popular nurses. This is why the nurse asked management not to reveal her name so that no one would retaliate against her. No one should feel bad for Gabby, though, because she didn’t regret what she did at all. She even kept bragging to everyone about how her trick worked.

Unfortunately, this event affected the patient. She started feeling like the nurses were judging her. That led to her having a breakdown and asking the charge nurse to only allow a few nurses to treat her, whom she believed were nice. The good part here is that Gabby did face consequences. The hospital immediately fired her and reported her nursing license to the board. Those who stayed silent were written up as well. Such a situation could make patients worry about not receiving the right treatment.

People Reacting to the Arizona Nurse’s Story

People were certainly happy that the Arizona nurse spoke up and protected the patient. A lot of people were also shocked by what Gabby did. Since the nurses who knew about the situation stayed silent, one person wrote, “So many mean girls in the nursing field omg.” This made another person reply and say, “They think it’s high school.” One woman even questioned how Gabby could think that the patient was faking her symptoms. “How can a patient fake hives?!” she asked. Even if she was faking it, which wasn’t the case, she should have still received the treatment that was prescribed for her. There was one Netizen who found the situation rather interesting. “The mind is powerful fr. She thought she got the Benadryl and felt better, which says a lot about how much healing starts in the mind but the nurse was still wrong,” they wrote.

More people kept praising the Arizona woman for what she did. “The fact that they said this in the med room with you and couldn’t figure out that you were the one that ‘snitched’ means they told so many other people they couldn’t pin it down to who did it. Which means, you’re the only one who advocated and did the right thing. Sad but good job,” one person wrote. There was also one woman who believed that the patient probably didn’t feel better after the wrong treatment. “Whole time that patient probably didn’t even feel better but didn’t want to be problematic and question that nurse. So sad ! Bravo to you for advocating for a patient!” she wrote. Unfortunately, this could be possible. As several people pointed out, someone like Gabby doesn’t deserve to have her nursing license.
