The clip was shared on TikTok by the new mother-of-two, Asia Calhoun. She posts lifestyle content alongside her husband, Jay, and their toddler daughter. The video quickly became viral in a day, garnering 2.1 million views, 194,600 likes, and more than 4,200 comments.

The Arizona married couple, just a day after their second daughter was born, decided to play a game to determine her name. They preselected some names, wrote them down on paper slips, and put them inside a cup. The very last paper slip drawn would be their daughter’s name.

First off, Jay drew his top pick: Gunthera. Apparently, Gunther was one of their options if their baby was a boy. Since the baby is a girl, they decided to alter it slightly to fit her gender.

“Sadly, it’s out of the picture,” Jay said.

Next up, Asia drew Velma, which she thought was a cute name, although it wasn’t in her top three. Jay then randomly picked Katie. Both of them sighed in relief, as they believed the name was “too basic.”

Asia then drew a unique one: Yahari. She explained that, if they were having a boy, an option would’ve been Safari. Yahari was a variation of that name. Jay loved that name, so he was slightly disappointed.

The second-to-last name to be drawn was “Quoise.” Both Arizona parents burst into laughter, and Asia explained that Jay’s favorite color is turquoise.

Finally, they drew the winning name: Beatrice. Inspired by how a character in a show would pronounce that name, they decided to preselect, and now it was going to be their daughter’s name. Asia brought the newborn child, Baby Beatrice, making it official.

Naming Technique Causes Reactions

The video sparked multiple responses.

Most users were shocked by some of the options that Asia and Jay had preselected. One viewer said, “Gunthera is wild.” Another one commented, “I will be calling the police on y’all.” A third one wrote, “Don’t name nothing else.”

Others grew fond of some of the names drawn by the Arizona couple. One user commented, “Okay, but I loved Yahari so much.” Another one added, “To be honest, Beatrice was probably the best out of everything.”
