Arkansas Angry As Cuts to the Meals on Wheels Program is Declared a Political Stunt: ‘It’s State Election Year!’

As many of you know, there have been cuts in many things across the country. Some of the biggest include Medicaid, and the list goes on to some that have greatly affected Americans in one way or another. Among those are the Meals on Wheels cuts, which have been the talking point lately in Arkansas, as it seems the state has reversed the cuts, at least for now. While this should have been seen as a great thing, many believe it is just a political stunt because the election is underway.

State nixes planned cuts to Meals on Wheels program, restores funding statewide

Arkansas Times shared today that the alleged cuts to the Meals on Wheels programs won’t happen anymore. As some may know, the government was going to introduce cuts to several programs, as, according to Jay Hill, Director of the Division of Aging and Adult Services, “expenses were outpacing revenues.” As a result, authorities were going to trim some of those expenses, and some of those “trims” included cuts to the Meals on Wheels program.

Now, this program is extremely important to senior citizens, as it provides food to those who can’t leave their homes. If, for whatever reason, the program were to shut down or experience cuts, it would affect several citizens, thus causing statewide trouble.

Fortunately, it seems that isn’t happening anymore, and the Meals on Wheels program will continue operating normally. And while this is certainly great news, some Redditors think this is only a political stunt or a smokescreen, especially since we’re in an election year and some candidates and political parties are looking to get on the good side of potential voters.

Arkansas Residents Think Reverting Meals on Wheels Cuts is Political

Many Redditors shared their thoughts on the comments, with many believing this is just a political move rather than a good-hearted action. Some even believe that this is a one-time thing happening because we’re in an election year.

“Because it’s a state election year.“

“Boy, they are really trying to push buttons and see which ones will stay off.“

Others, however, focused on the fact that the initial announcement clearly scared some citizens, and all of that just to reverse it at the last moment.

“This likely caused enormous drama and concern for people and their families. I wonder how many people lost sleep trying to figure out a workaround to keep our seniors fed. Shameful.“

In the end, this is good for many, regardless of the endgame that the authorities and political figures may have.
