Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon is storming the charts with its release on Steam, to no one’s surprise. Bandai Namco says it’s all thanks to Elden Ring, but it’s also a rarely successful revival of a franchise that has been dormant for ten years. It currently sits in 8th place on Steam, but during its launch day, it knocked off Baldur’s Gate 3 from the top spot. Elden Ring introduced the mainstream to the Souls series, and it’s clear that Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon‘s release has successfully introduced the mainstream to the Armored Core series.
How Did Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon Revive the Franchise?
According to Bandai Namco, “Thanks to Elden Ring, FromSoftware has become a seal, a guarantee of quality, and therefore people will see that the Metacritic of this game is great, that it’s challenging but very rewarding and say ‘I wanna try that game’.” FromSoftware has gone from an extremely successful company that made games for a certain type of player to a triple-A studio creating games for all gaming lovers.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is a different animal than the Souls games, but it still has that FromSoftware DNA surging through it. Build variety, intriguing story, and tense, painfully difficult boss fights are all here, and although some players will likely not be familiar with this series, they will feel right at home when they start playing.
Armored Core 6‘s strong release shows that FromSoftware has a lot of flexibility in its upcoming schedule, as they now have resurrected a series that many thought would remain untouched after Armored Core 5. They can go for another world-shattering release like Elden Ring, make Armored Core 7, or create another new IP, as it seems anything FromSofware touches turns to gold.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is available now for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
