FromSoftware fans are coming hot off the heels of Elden Ring, and now the studio’s next project, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, has already received a rating from the South Korean ratings board. This is a great sign that the game’s development is going fine, and those worried about delays can rest a bit easier. While a rating doesn’t always indicate an imminent release or announcement, it’s a good indication that some official news may be coming soon.
For the uninitiated, Armored Core is a long-running franchise from FromSoftware that predates the studio’s bone-crushing and controller-breaking RPGs. The first Armored Core game was released in 1997; since then, there have been more than 10 sequels, spin-offs, and improved editions. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was announced at The Game Awards 2022 and will be the first release in the series in a decade. It’s being developed by the new and improved FromSoftware that has reinvented itself following the success of Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne. Will the sci-fi game also get the Soulsbourne treatment? We’ll have to wait and see.
Armored Core 6 Update is Good News for FromSoftware Fans
When Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was announced, it was given a short 2023 release window, but given FromSoftware’s reputation for delays, many fans are rightfully worried that it might be optimistic, to say the least. However, the recent rating from the South Korean ratings board has rekindled hopes of a 2023 release. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon received a rating of 12+, which is kind of young considering the previous games from FromSoftware.
While the 12+ rating doesn’t give much additional information about the game, it does reveal that the game will contain mild violence due to weapon-based attacks and explosions. Those hoping for violence rivaling Dark Souls or Bloodborne may be slightly disappointed. But then again, how much violence can a mech game even have?
Armored Core 6‘s protagonist is a mercenary named 621 Raven, and the game will focus on piloting Armored Core mechs. Ravens are a frequent term used throughout the Armored Core franchise and have not been used in recent releases, indicating that Armored Core 6 may be a return to some of the original ideas of the series. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will release in 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
