She surprised her 8.5 million Instagram followers with a video detailing the exciting news. The documentary-style clip began with a drone view of New York City and showed Ashanti’s team backstage. They were preparing for her to go onstage and kept asking questions. One team member inquired “how much time you need? Surprisingly, Ashanti, who was behind the curtains, emerged with a positive pregnancy test and declared, “Imma need about nine months.”
The Rock Wit U singer looked plump and hid her burgeoning bump under a glamorous outfit. She donned a sequined silver dress with a fur coat. “Baby baby baby babyโฆ. โค๏ธ๐๐ฝ๐,” she captioned the post.
However, Ashanti and Nelly’s good news didn’t stop there. In a follow-up interview with Essence Magazine, Ashanti revealed that she and the rapper are not only expecting their first child but they also got engaged. Opening up about her reaction, she said:
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancรฉ, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
