Ubisoft has officially revealed the actual name of the previously codenamed Assassin’s Creed Red, and it will get a reveal trailer this week. The working title has been replaced with a far more appropriate Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This is the next console and PC Assassin’s Creed game, not to be confused with Jade, the upcoming mobile title.
The trailer for the game will be shown on Wednesday, May 15, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST. Whether it will show the gameplay or not is still up for debate. The term Ubisoft used in the announcement video is “reveal trailer” but that could mean a cinematic or gameplay trailer.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red Now Called Shadows, Reveal Trailer Coming Soon
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will hopefully get an official release window, or better yet, a release date. We already have some idea about when it should be coming out since Ubisoft has already confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Red will come out in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
Previously known as Red, Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes place in Feudal Japan, an era that the series has not explored in video game form. The animated Assassin’s Creed Embers did show some hints about the Japanese assassins but they were fairly limited.
We’ve already seen games like Ghost of Tsushima and Sekrio explore the Feudal Japan era, and it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft handles it. Although unlikely, if Ubisoft relinquishes its tried and tested (and beaten to death) treadmill approach with the same map revealing towers and quest-laden menus, Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be quite a departure from what we’ve seen before.
Assassin’s Creed Red, or Shadows, will have some sort of live-service elements, to the dismay of most fans of the series. How they will be implemented is still unknown. Hopefully, the reveal will shed some light on the matter and give more details on the game.
