Video game movies have traditionally been a dangerous venture, with very few titles ever being successfully transferred to the big screen. However, with the likes of Ratchet and Clank as well as Warcraft waiting in the wings to wow audiences, it appears that movie producers are still decidedly keeping their fingers in the game industry pie. One such offering that is being hovered tantalizingly in front of us is Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft’s pride and joy, which has now jumped thoroughly onto the hype train with its first official trailer. Watch it below.

It appears that much of the story of the games will transfer over to the big screen as well. While nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition, the costumes, the setting and even the visual style of Assassin’s Creed is being copied to its cinematic counterpart. However, the game is an entirely new tale, featuring an apparently “executed” criminal that will now serve the purposes of what appears to be the Templar organisation in the modern age.
While much appears the same, there is one particularly strong difference between the game and the movie. Entering the Animus appears to have transferred from a strictly horizontal affair into something more acrobatic. The hidden blades, of course, make an appearance, and it looks like the various action scenes will heavily mimic the fluid combat of the games as well. And what Assassin’s Creed movie would it be without the jumping, climbing, rolling and a Leap of Faith(TM)? If you’ve ever wanted to watch Michael Fassbender fling himself off a building, make sure you check out the trailer above!
You can expect to see Assassin’s Creed in theatres on the 21st December. For more movie and gaming news, make sure you follow The Nerd Stash on Facebook, Twitter or Youtube!
