In a recent news release, Atari announced their plans for PAX South 2016. In addition to the upcoming mobile title Pridefest and a new addition to the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, Atari will showcase another new title in development for Steam: Atari Vault.
With Atari Vault, gamers can find 100 classic Atari arcade titles. Some of the games packages in the collection will include Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest, and Warlords. Although the games will be true ports, including the original arcade soundtracks, Atari Vault will not just be a collection of ports. New features will allow online multiplayer for games, individual leaderboards, upgraded user interface, and Steam Controller support. It promises to bring the arcade experience to your PC, all streamlined into one package on Steam.
Most of the games included with Atari Vault will surely have been ported and released in multiple iterations over the years since they originally hit the scene, but a release on Steam of this many games in one package could be an enticing purchase, especially if the pricing is not too extravagant for a collection of 30+-year-old games. Some of the arcade/ Atari 2600 games from way back when would find a welcome home on many a nostalgia-driven PC gamer. Dig Dug, please?
Gamers will be able to give a demo of Atari Vault a swing if they are able to attend PAX South 2016, as well as the aforementioned Pridefest and Rollercoaster Tycoon. PAX South takes place on January 29-31 in San Antonio.
