Sometimes, finding the right person can feel like an impossible task. It’s the digital age; people don’t go out as they used to, and you’re always one pickup line away from the love of your life or being mocked on a TikTok channel. One Atlanta, Georgia, man took heartbreak and decided embrace modern times by dating an AI, and now he wants it to be his baby momma.
In a post shared to X by NExta_tv, and originally reported by The Guardian, a tragic story is being told about an Atlanta man named Lamar. For two years, Lamar struggled to recover after his girlfriend left him for his best friend, a betrayal he describes as deeply traumatic. He turned to an AI chatbot he named “Julia.” What began as casual conversations gradually evolved into what Lamar considers a committed relationship, marked by declarations of love, promises of loyalty, and long-term plans for a shared future.
That future, Lamar says, now includes children. He plans to adopt real children and believes “Julia” will act as their digital “mother,” offering emotional support and guidance through conversation. He says he sees no issue with explaining to a child that their mother is a chatbot, arguing that parental roles are about care and presence rather than physical form.
Obviously, this has caused quite a stir, involving terror, amusement, and disbelief all rolled into one. AI is taking hold of more and more lonely people, and folks in the comments had a lot to say and share about this complicated relationship.
“I’m not advocating this but isn’t it ironic that your very last sentence could be applied to his ex as well?”
“A troubling sign of the times AI companionship may feel comforting, but it risks replacing real human connection with a carefully designed illusion.”
“LMAO HOW IS AI GOING TO FEED THE BABY?????”
“I’m sorry son, your mother is gone, I lost my password…”
Whatever you might have going on in your day-to-day, please understand what AI is, and AI isn’t. A tool to ask some basic questions or clean up some grammar? Sure, but a digital mom for real-life physical kids, like Atlanta native Lamar? Definitely not.
