From one of the minds behind the Cornetto Trilogy (World’s End/Hot Fuzz/Shaun Of The Dead) comes Baby Driver, the story of a kid named Baby with a special set of skills. The first official trailer for the film released earlier this week, shedding light on the upcoming action flick that had South by Southwest viewers raving.
Written and directed by Edgar Wright, Baby Driver seems like a terribly titled, oddly cliche version of many actions flicks before it. But the trailer revealed not only some unique aspects that add to the producing portion of the film – as Baby’s hearing issues result in him listening to music to stop the pain, which means the film is set to a lot of cool tracks – it also has a bit of charm to it.

While it seems it will follow a bit of a cliche of boy falls for girl, one last job, then they run away together, the cast is surprisingly deep at first glance. Newcomers Ansel Elgort and Lily James will be joined by the likes of Award winning actors and actresses like Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Meryl Streep.
Most importantly, the trailer revealed that the main antagonist would be none other than Kevin Spacey. Personally, I’ve always believed Spacey’s best performances have been as a villain – he even made Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare campaign a bit more bearable – but with support from Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Daredevil), his role in Baby Driver has the possibility to be his best yet.
Early reviews are already raving about the film, praising its use of sound to drive the action scenes. I for one can’t wait and plan to see it the first day, so be sure to check back for the official review!
