Yesterday, Nintendo announced a collaboration with Japanese metal icon band BABYMETAL to bring a new costume and extra course to the WII U’s Super Mario Maker. The costume will feature the trio of the all-female band in the typical 8-bit sprite form seen throughout the costume changes in Super Mario Maker.
The costume works like their December 2015 release based off of Paper Mario. In order to get the costume you have to either A. scan an Amiibo, B. completing the 100 Mario Challenge mode, or C. complete a certain “event course”.

Named after their recently released album (April 2016) , Metal Resistance, the extra level had fire, skulls, all that is shiny and chrome. The typical gothic-esque background you would expect except with the quirkiness of J-Pop mixed with heavy metal. Of course, the ladies of Babymetal; Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno), and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi), voice themselves, saying “tobe!” (loosely translated: jump) and other various sayings every time they go from platform to platform.
It isn’t known yet if the DLC will come to the US yet, but this is definitely not the first or the last we will see Babymetal in action. Babymetal’s “Gimme Chocolate” was included in a DLC for RockBand 4 and they recently performed on Late Night with Stephen Colbert.
