The lead on the eleventh season of The Bachelorette revealed she got an “upper bleph” operation two days ago. She dropped the notice on Instagram with a picture of herself at the hospital and a message to critics.
The term “upper bleph” referred to a blepharoplasty, which involved the removal of excess skin around the eyelids. This excess skin can sag or affect side vision, but it was unclear why Bristowe got it. Instead, she advised critics to take it to their group chat if they wanted to be negative. The TV personality echoed similar sentiments in her latest Instagram update.
She shared two pictures and a video detailing her healing journey and trip to the operating table. The first image captured Bristowe at home with her healing eyelids looking red and swollen. The second snap captured the stitches on her eyelids while the video showed her in a wheelchair at the hospital. Bristowe seemingly addressed the criticism with Meryl Streep’s iconic line from The Devil Wears Prada, writing:
“Don’t be ridiculous, Andrea, everyone wants to look like this.”
Although she seemed unbothered by the public’s disapproval, it did not stop people from expressing their bewilderment. “Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy? You didn’t like your eye lids!?!?!?!? Like wtf,” a shocked Instagram user penned. However, Bristowe sassily replies, “No, I’m for sure a bit crazy.”
She kept clapping back at fans, calling one out for calling her procedure “unnecessary” and dangerous to her looks. Another confused fan could not fathom the reason for the surgery, claiming her original eyelids were “beautiful.” More people noted there was nothing wrong with Bristowe’s eyelids, while some implored her to avoid altering her natural features. She has dated multiple men from the Bachelor Nation, including Nick Viall, Shawn Booth, and Jason Tartick. She and her most recent ex, Tartick, dated for two years and got engaged before ending things last year.
The former couple announced their breakup in a joint statement that suggested their split was mutual and amicable. Bristowe and Tartick vowed to cherish their friendship while moving on with love and respect for each other. However, after multiple separations from men in reality TV, the entertainer seemed hesitant about dating another Bachelor star. She described dating someone from the reality TV show as a “superficial” red flag, adding:
“I wonder if other people have that in, like, the workplace. Like, ‘I don’t want to date another lawyer if I’m a lawyer.’ It’s one of those things where I say that, but then I see all the hot pieces of a— that come out of the Bachelor franchise. And I’m like, ‘OK.'”
Bristowe’s reluctance to date another man from the Bachelor franchise might stem from her last relationship. She explained that she and Tartick got too much attention from their union and got lost in it. They got caught up in monetizing their relationship for social media until it became “gross,” and they parted ways.
