During the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase for E3 2021, Turtle Rock Studios debuted a trailer for their upcoming zombie shooter Back 4 Blood. Along with official gameplay footage, the trailer sneaks in the release date at the end with Xbox Game Pass Day One privileges.

Turtle Rock Studios and The Bloody Comeback

Back 4 Blood giant monster from Turtle Rock Studios

The trailer for Back 4 Blood was introduced right after S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 debuted during E3 2021. It was the perfect blend from one horror title to the next, with Turtle Rock Studios being given the spotlight for the next round.

Back 4 Blood is essentially the spiritual successor to the developer’s smashing hit game Left 4 Dead. After an unfortunate split from Valve (who owns the rights to the franchise), Turtle Rock Studios re-established itself as an independent studio. Now, 13 years later, the studio is ready to spill guts once again with the new IP.

The trailer is backed by a rocking tune that seems to go along with the action beats seen in the footage. Our new heroes are armed to the teeth with melee weapons and guns. Periodically, a special infected enemy is shown off, with massive foes and elongated creatures that might look a little similar to the Smoker and Tank from Left 4 Dead. It’s a very active trailer too, switching between snippets of gameplay and cinematics to properly introduce the audience to the developer’s new adventure.

In addition to the 4-player team-up, a human vs. zombie mode entitled Swarm Mode will pit four human players against four grotesque infected enemies controlled by players. This may sound very familiar to those who have played Left 4 Dead in the past (or even at this moment).

Back 4 Blood Swarm Mode PvP

Back 4 Blood will be officially launching on October 12, 2021 for the Xbox Series X|S. Xbox Game Pass owners will be able to play the title when it comes out. Furthermore, the game will also be available to play on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
