A Netflix reality star has gone viral after a street interview about money and life in New York. The clip quickly spread across social media. It was reposted, shared, and widely discussed. By the time it reached Reddit, many people were already criticizing her comments.
The video was posted by the TikTok account Girls Who Sublet NYC.
It features Jade Shenker, a luxury real estate agent who appeared on Netflix’s Owning Manhattan.
During the interview, Shenker said she does not pay rent because her boyfriend pays for their apartment in New York’s Financial District. She estimated the rent at about $8,000 a month.
When asked about her job, Shenker said she is a real estate agent who “sells buildings.”
She said her yearly income can range from $70,000 to $1 million, depending on the deals she closes.
The interview then turned to the cost of living in New York.
When asked how much money someone needs to live comfortably, Shenker replied, “I feel like the homeless people on the street are pretty comfortable too, so like, you don’t really have to make anything.”
Before the interview ended, Shenker said she grew up on New York’s Upper East Side.
According to The Tab, Shenker was also carrying a water bottle worth about $350 during the interview. The report said this detail added to criticism from people who felt her comments were out of touch.

Several commenters focused on how depressingly plausible the answer felt despite the skepticism. “Damn I knew people like this existed, but the reality is just so much more depressing,” one wrote.
