Donald Trump might just have made an enemy of some of the biggest Latina entertainers. The Republican presidential candidate indirectly stepped on toes at his Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a distasteful joke. Hinchcliffe, one of the openers of the night, referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage.” In response, big Hollywood names have thrown their weight behind Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris.
Following Hinchcliffe’s remarks, singer Bad Bunny took to his Instagram Story to repost a video of Harris addressing Puerto Rican voters. In the recording, the vice president urged voters to remember Trump’s neglect of their Island. The Puerto Rican singer highlighted the part of the VP’s speech where she said, “I’ll never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and competent leader. He abandoned the Island.“
Next in line was Ricky Martin who also reposted Harris’ message on his IG story with the caption, “I remember.” He then shared a clip of Hinchcliffe’s roast with the caption, “This is what they think of us,” written in Spanish. Finally, Jennifer Lopez put the nail in Trump’s coffin with an endorsement on her social media.
Donald Trump ‘Pissed Off Wrong Guy’ With Puerto Rico Joke
Hinchcliffe, who hosts the live podcast Kill Tony, said to the crowd, “There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” At another point in his speech, the comic said Latino people “love making babies.”
The offensive remark, which caused a backlash, resulted in a statement from Trump’s campaign, distancing themselves from the comedian. Senior advisor Daniella Alvarez told Forbes, “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.” Fans online bashed the former president, accusing him of going too far. “They pissed off the wrong guy,” one fan wrote on Reddit. Another comment read, “Why would you invite the man who runs KillTony, a show about absolutely destroying people’s lives in joke form, to a political conference?! Are you trying to lose?” Things continue to look bleak for Trump with just nine days to the election.
