The issues with the movie, which was previously confirmed to be in progress, do not end. The new movie experienced considerable delays because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, other problems are popping up.
However, it seems that things are not going well for Tomb Raider 2. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tomb Raider Star Alicia Vikander gives disappointing updates to fans. Lara Croft might not return to cinemas soon because recent developments delayed the film again.
Amazon’s buyout of MGM may delay Tomb Raider 2
In a new interview with EW, Alicia Vikander gives new updates about the Tomb Raider sequel. What is known so far about the film is that it has been in the works since 2019, and it will likely be written and directed by Misha Green from Lovecraft Country. However, Vikander says that Amazon’s buyout of MGM has complicated things, and she herself cannot speak for sure about the future of the film.
“With the MGM and Amazon buyout, I have no clue. Now it’s kind of politics. I think Misha and I have been ready, so it’s kind of in somebody else’s hands, to be honest.”
MGM, the studio behind the film, was bought by Amazon in March. The $8.5 billion deal affected the film’s future. According to Alicia Vikander, Tomb Raider 2 is not moving forward because of political and business reasons. Looks like Tomb Raider 2 may not be coming for a while.
The original Tomb Raider was released in 2018. The film, starring Vikander, adapted the events from 2013’s Rise of Tomb the Raider game. The film had a worldwide total of $274.7 million. Currently, the film has no timeline for release.
