I thought it was a known fact that when you get half the service at a place, you pay half the price. It turns out that not everyone thinks like this. A baffled New York amputee shared how she went to a nail salon for the first time to do her nails. The first thought that would come to your mind is that she won’t pay full price, but the salon didn’t share the same opinion. Despite feeling vulnerable, the girl decided to ask the woman at the checkout if she could do half price since she only did one hand. This sounds reasonable, but the woman looks confused, as if she doesn’t understand her request. The girl then repeats her point of view, saying that she only used one hand, so maybe she can pay half or even 60% of the price.
At this point, the New York woman starts feeling awkward. She would have assumed that the salon would agree with her. Instead, another woman came up to the two and asked the customer if this was her first time here. It was. Guess what the employee said? She told her that if she made their nail salon her regular one, they would give her the discount. That’s just insane. Even if she was a regular or not, you are still doing five nails and not ten. Of course, the girl feels that the whole situation is weird, but she lied and told them that she would make the salon her regular one so that they would give her the half-price discount. That’s valid, honestly, since the salon thought of themselves instead of doing what is reasonable. At least, the girl didn’t seem upset. Plus, she liked her manicure.
People Reacting to the New York Amputee’s Experience
I wasn’t the only one who agreed with the New York woman that she should have paid half price. A lot shared the same opinion as one woman wrote, “Half price is fair and anyone expecting otherwise is absurd.” Another woman tried to defend the salon and asked, “But if you booked her for a full service how is that fair to the worker?” Let’s just say that she didn’t get the reply she expected as one person wrote, “Seriously??????? Her one hand probably 15-20 mins you act like she slaved for 6 hours. This is a HUMAN WITH A DISABILITY. Fair to the worker? Like huh????” They have got a point. Another person also said, “1/2 the labor cost and materials. Half price is fair.”
Not everyone agreed with the New York woman, though, because some sided with the salon. “They booked you for two hands. The techs time spot got filled up and she would eat the cost. This is something you have to say BEFORE appointment. Most would happily accommodate that if you did it before. Otherwise that slot is gone and she just lost out on money for that time slot,” one person wrote. Others blamed her for not discussing the price before they did her hand. “So here’s the thing. Half off should’ve been discussed prior to services rendered,” another person wrote. Even if she didn’t discuss it, she still did one hand. She should pay for one. Anything other than that should honestly be seen as theft.
