The city of Baldur’s Gate holds many secrets and some dangerous places. After hours of exploring, you’ll discover that you’ll face several foes that’ll make your life difficult. One of the hardest fights in the game’s final act is against the Vampire Lord Cazador, who is also the one that Astarion has been pursuing. Finding and beating him can be challenging, but we recommend you do it to get some good vampire lore. So, if you want to see Astarion’s quest to a conclusion, we’ll tell you how to defeat Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Cazador Location
To find Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3, you first need to get clues about his location. The easiest way to do this is by heading to Wyrm’s Crossing and entering the building in front of the brothel. Head to the second floor, and you’ll spot some obvious vampires speaking about a huge party in Cazador’s palace; after this, the location will be marked on your map.
Head out of the building and progress through the story until you can enter the Lower City. You must find and enter the Palace through the ramparts; we’ll show you on the map below. You might have to fight a few guards, but killing them is the fastest way to get the key to the palace; however, you still have a long way to go.
How to Enter Cazador’s Dungeon
You’ll notice that NPCs aren’t hostile toward you inside the Palace, making finding Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3 much easier. You must first head downstairs until you spot a door that emanates a dark mist. Once inside, follow these steps:
- Fly or jump above the corpse (casting Remove Curse also works).
- Head to the wardrobe on the far right of the room to find the dictionary; read it to progress the quest.
- Head downstairs until you find a hidden door (Perception check required).
- Speak to the Skeleton and pass the Charisma check to obtain the ring.
- Head upstairs to find the locked door with the red aura and use the ring and the words from the dictionary to open the door.
- Defeat the enemies (most are weak to Radiant and Fire damage).
- Head toward the office and spot the elevator; ride it down to reach Cazador’s dungeon.
Cazador Boss Fight
Cazador’s dungeon in Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t as big as others but has some interesting Vampire lore. We recommend you check every place before heading down the corridor and facing the Vampire Lord; we also recommend you bring Astarion, as this is the ending of his quest. If you’ve entered the dungeon, here’s how to defeat Cazador:
- The easiest way to defeat Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3 is by having someone cast Daylight on him. The spell will last the entire fight, damaging Cazador and preventing him from turning invisible.
- We saw this also prevented him from absorbing the kidnapped vampires.
- If you follow the first way, casting Daylight will stop Cazador from imprisoning Astarion during the fight.
- Following the first way, we recommend you stay on the stairs and cast Spike Growth or Glyph of Warding: Ice to slow the enemies’ movement.
- The second way to defeat Cazador is by sending your party to the kidnapped vampires and defeating them to prevent Cazador from empowering himself.
- Following the second way will show more dialogue before the fight, but Astarion will be imprisoned, leaving you with three party members.
- Bringing a Paladin and a Cleric will make this fight much easier as most are weak to Radiant damage.
- When you get Cazador to 0HP, he’ll retreat to his coffin until you defeat all other enemies.
Should You Let Astarion Go On With the Ritual?
Before and after the fight, you’ll learn that Cazador wants to absorb 7,000 souls to become the ultimate Vampire. However, Astarion can do the ritual and empower himself. The best and good-aligned decision, per se, is letting Astarion continue the ritual. You’ll doom 7,000 souls and many Vampires locked in the dungeon but will prevent said Vampires from being free to wreak havoc in Baldur’s Gate. Yet, you can stop Astarion mid-ritual and kill him, losing a potentially valuable ally for the final fight.
