Bartlow's Dread Machine update
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

While it’s not too well known, I’m a big fan of Bartlow’s Dread Machine. I got the chance to review it not too long ago and immediately fell in love with its old-timey arcade style. That, and it was just a fun game to play overall. Plenty of customization and humor to go around. If you haven’t had the chance to play it, I wholeheartedly recommend it. For those that are interested in the game though, today brings some big news for you. Bartlow’s Dread Machine has released its biggest update ever, bringing with it plenty of quality-of-life features to enhance your experience further. You can check out the game’s launch trailer below if you haven’t seen it yet.

Bartlow’s Dread Machine’s biggest update brings various changes such as letting you change characters between levels and rebalancing the difficulty mid-game. I never had an issue with it myself, but I imagine it feels much more refined than it used to now. It’s also a nice touch to be able to switch characters mid-playthrough since it’s nice to see what each one has to offer. On top of these changes, there’s also the ability to start the game without any of your unlocked upgrades. That may sound counterintuitive, but it can be quite nice if you’d like to start fresh with a friend. If any of this sounds like fun, you can try it right now. It’s also available at 67% off for the next day, with a price that’s quite frankly a steal.

Matthew Hoseterey, Co-Founder and Director of Design at developer Tribetoy, had this to say on the update’s release:

We’re very proud of what we accomplished with Bartlow’s Dread Machine, but as any creative person can tell you, there’s always more work to be done. We’ve listened to player feedback and tailored the experience in a way that takes all the criticisms we’ve received into consideration.”

Will you be hopping in to try the new Bartlow’s Dread Machine update? What are your thoughts on the game if you’ve played it? Let me know in the comments below!
