At first, glance calling their new Battlefield game Battlefield 1 suggests EA doesn’t understand how to number their games correctly.
In actual fact, Battlefield 1 breaks ranks with so many ‘historical’ first person shooters by setting it in World War One (hence the 1 in the title) rather than the overused WWII;

The trailer is apparently made up of footage from the game engine itself and looks as graphically gorgeous as you’d expect from a big budget, current gen FPS. There seems to be a fairly wide variety of gameplay hinted at and theverge.com clears up a few details that might not be obvious from the trailer;
- It’s not set in an alternate timeline; yes, the war zeppelins are based on actual events.
- Its release date is October 21st this year, which will pit Battlefield 1 against Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
- The game will have a single-player campaign.
The official press release sums up the game as;
“Set against the backdrop of World War 1, witness the birth of modern warfare, as the Great War saw a furious arms race with new machines and weapons created to get the upper hand during the most technologically divergent war of all time. Feel the intensity and immersion as Battlefield 1 takes advantage of this modern arsenal to deliver the experience fans love, but with a fresh and modern twist.”
