It might have it’s haters, but Star Wars Battlefront has its fans. DICE continues its rounds of DLC with the Bespin update. When The Outer Rim released back in April, it didn’t do much to sway those who felt empty with Battlefront. The biggest complaint is that The Outer Rim only works with smaller game modes. You can’t play Walker Assault, Supremacy, and even the added mode Turning Point. On the plus side, there are a few new modes such as extraction. Even then, you couldn’t play these modes on Battlefront’s vanilla maps.

One downside is that Bespin only adds one mode called Sabotage (you blow up generators then get to extraction), but on the other hand there are more maps for both large player modes AND small player modes. You can play Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point as well as Fighter Squadron. There are 5 new maps in total, all located on Bespin. These maps are fun and have quite a few nods to the Empire Strikes Back, from the lighting to building design. Fans will definitely love one map in particular, especially if playing a Heroes vs. Villains match. In addition, there are new weapons and heroes/villains.
Lando Calrissian is the new hero after many requested it. Dengar the mercenary is the villain. Not many would expect Dengar could be a villain in the game since he only had a very small role in the movie (not even talking), but he is one of the better additions. Calrissian is nerfed on the other hand. He doesn’t fare well against Dengar, Vader, Palpatine, heck every villain. Don’t fret, though, he is fun to play. It is just unfortunate he doesn’t hold up completely.
The added weapons come in the form of Hutt Contracts. They don’t take long to complete so you can partake pretty quickly if you wish. With the weapons, also comes one new vehicle: the cloud car. The cloud car holds up very nicely in Fighter Squadron and will be sure to be a favorite. I have not checked, but I think the Cloud Car is only usable in the Bespin maps.
The rank cap has increased to 70, changes to the HUD and new character options are just some things included with the update. These changes are for everyone, even if you don’t get the DLC.
Is the Bespin DLC worth the $20? Yes and no. Though there are some great things about it, the content doesn’t keep you in for very long. Already there are some moments when you can’t find matches that are full, making them very lopsided. If you want to play the Outer Rim DLC, you might also have problems with that as well when trying to find a match.
DICE, though making large strides, needs something big to bring in new players for the long term. With 2 more DLC packs coming, on the $50 Season Pass, they might need to do something big to change people’s minds about the game. I think they should add Conquest, a staple of the original Battlefront or even all you to play the new modes on older maps. It does get a bit boring playing Sabotage or Extraction on only DLC maps. Let’s hope the Death Star DLC is more in line with what fans want.
Bespin is now available for Season Pass Holders while if you want to purchase it on it’s own, it should be out in a few weeks.
