Apparently, five DC TV shows aren’t enough for the CW-verse as Deadline is reporting that a Batwoman series is in development.
Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Smallville) and head of the Arrowverse Greg Berlanti will spearhead the project.
Here is a synopsis for Batwoman from the Deadline article:
“In Batwoman, written by Dries based on the DC characters, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Kate Kane, along with the city of Gotham, will be making their Arrowverse debut with the universe’s annual crossover event. Casting for the Bat-family hero is already underway.
According to CinemaBlend, this year’s epic crossover will only span three episodes with Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash. This most likely means that the lovable misfits on Legends of Tomorrow will be left out of the Gotham crossover.
As for the reasoning behind this decision, we aren’t sure. These events are usually jam-packed with all of the heroes in the Arrowverse so I would guess that the writing staff is aiming for a more personal story with our DCTV Trinity at the forefront.
There is no confirmation on Batwoman’s premiere date as of yet but the network is aiming for a 2019 window.
