This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Parker Posey’s role in the Beau is Afraid movie is a blink-you-miss moment, but she sure told a resounding story and created her sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix with a professional touch. The actress brushed bodies with Phoenix, who was her teenage lover. Even after the film hit the theaters, she won’t stop talking about the sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix.

Parker Posey on Her ‘Beau Is Afraid’ Sex Scene

Parker Posey is not the main character in Ari Aster’s directed Beau Is Afraid. Her role is nearly forgettable, but she made the best of her appearance. The actress who worked closely with Joaquin Phoenix is in awe of their work experience. To her, being pitched for a raunchy scene with the “Joker” star was exhilarating. She described it as an “amusement park ride.”

Posey, who admires the film’s plot, and labels it poetic, told People how she felt playing the intimate scene. In a confident tone, she praised herself, adding:

“No one else would do this, and no one could do this. My career, my path, is of the expected. I don’t know how to explain it.”

The 54-year-old said it was a deep experience for her. But apart from the steamy moment, the movie also showed Posey as a long-lost love. Meanwhile, Phoenix, who played Beau, goes on a journey of discovery. In the process, he tries to connect with his overbearing mom— Patti LuPone.

Posey gushed on her set moment with LuPone, the Broadway icon. The actress referenced her Broadway eminence before revealing that she enjoyed working with the veteran.

In between being star-struck and enjoying a deep sense of connection with the film’s theme and scenes, she had fun. Beau Is Afraid is Parker Posey’s second film with Phoenix. The first time she worked with him was in 2015. The pair appeared in Woody Allen’s Irrational Man. Despite the years that have passed, their work relationship was smooth.

The on-screen star went ahead to applaud Phoenix’s acting prowess. She commented on his ability in making the story fluent. Posey compared the actor and director Aster to “great surfers,” who are so artful. According to her, their professionalism makes it easy to trust them.

Joaquin Phoenix Fainted While Filming the Movie

While Phoenix might have perfected his craft, he is very much human. Last month it was reported that the actor fainted while on set. Despite knowing his onions, an intense scene got the best part of him.

Aster mentioned that the actor passed out, and shockingly it was during LuPone’s take. The director recognized that he was truly unaware of what had happened after seeing him surrounded by people. She added:

“He was letting people touch him, and people were tending to him and he was allowing it.”

The film debuted in the theaters on April 21. Parker Posey and Joaquin Phoenix are not the only known faces in Beau is Afraid. Apart from LuPone, the dark comedy features Amy Ryan, Hayley Squires, and Nathan Lane.

This is Aster’s comeback directional shot after her absence for about three years. Her last film was Midsommar which aired in 2019. So far, the film has not done badly. Rotten Tomatoes scored it a 70%. On IMDb, a $ 35 million film ranks 7.2 over 10.
